Date: 27 May 2006 Location: Hervey Bay (from the Fraser Coast Chronicle) - By Toni McRae DOCTORS at Harvard and Yale Universities in the United States have awarded Hervey Bay psychologist and counsellor Elizabeth Benson-Stott an international fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. Ms Benson-Stott learned this week she had won the prestigious International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry 2006 Donald J. Cohen Fellowship award. Ms Benson-Stott, who was recently nominated for Queenslander of the Year, said yesterday she was excited and proud at hearing the news. "This fellowship will allow me to meet and interact with like-minded peers and recognised leaders in the field from around the world. "It is a very meaningful accolade for me." Two of the judges - the congress' co-chair, Yale University's Andres Martin, MD MPH, and president Myron Belfer, MD of Harvard University - wrote to Ms Benson-Stott saying she had been chosen "because of the relevance of your work to paediatric mental health in your country and region of the world, and because we view you as an emerging leader who could have a positive long-term impact on our field." In the short term, the fellowship will take the young Hervey Bay woman to the 17th World International Association of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Allied Professions Congress in Melbourne in September where she will address the conference.<end> For more information on this topic visit: Fraser Coast Chronicle |
