Date: 13 September 2005 Location: Sydney Suicide Prevention Australia recently hosted the 2005 National LIFE awards. On 13th September 2005, Elizabeth Benson-Stott (Director and Snr Psychologist of Aggregate Corporation in Hervey Bay) was awarded a certificate of commendation for her work in the area of suicide prevention. The National Life Awards were given to acknowledge the great contribution of 'quiet achievers'. Awards were made in four categories: Young Australians, Healthy Communities, Responsible Media Reporting, and Indigenous Health. Judging of the entries was completed by a panel of independent community experts. The LIFE AWARDS were presented at a Civic Reception in Government House, Sydney, and provided an opportunity to engage a range of groups working in a way that is life affirming and contributing to the health and well being of Australians. Suicide Prevention Australia (SPA) is a non-profit, non-government organisation working as a public health advocate in suicide prevention. The mission of Suicide Prevention Australia is the prevention of suicide and suicidal behaviours and the minimisation of their negative impact upon the community. SPA is the only national umbrella body active in suicide prevention throughout Australia. They are also the only non-government member organisation of suicidologists in Australia. SPA is a broad-based organisation, which brings together diverse community interests across disciplines, youth and mental health sectors and the public affected by suicide. As a national non-government umbrella organisation, SPA supports and assists individuals and organisations throughout Australia.
