Suicide Prevention Australia recently had their annual conference. On 28th October 2004, Elizabeth Benson-Stott (Director and Snr Psychologist of Aggregate Corporation in Hervey Bay) was flown to Sydney to receive a National Award from Suicide Prevention Australia. The Award was given to a person or organisation who went about bringing positive attitudes and life affirming support to others in the area of suicide prevention. The National Life Awards were given to acknowledge the great contribution of 'quiet achievers'. Awards were made in four categories: Young Australians, Healthy Communities, Responsible Media Reporting, and Indigenous Health. Judging of the entries was completed by a panel of independent community experts. The LIFE AWARDS were presented at a Lord Mayors Civic Reception in Sydney which launched the 2004 Suicide Prevention Australia Conference on 28th October 2004. In keeping with the conference theme, the LIFE AWARDS provided an opportunity to engage the range of groups working in a way that is life affirming and contributing to the health and well being of Australians. Elizabeth Benson-Stott won the National category of Youth. This Award was sponsored by Huyndai who were on hand to present the Award. The Youth Award category recognized those individuals, groups or organizations that have as their activity suicide prevention in young Australians. <end> For more information on this topic contact: James Stott |
